Proton X50 – Over 128,000 Units Sold in Malaysia, Top B-Segment SUV Since 2020
January 17, 2025 Andrew Cheng

Aside from launching the new Proton X50 Sport Edition, the national carmaker also revealed that over 128,000 units of the X50 have been sold in Malaysia. This makes it the number one B-segment SUV on our shores, “a position the model has held since its launch in 2020,” as Proton puts it.

The X50 was updated just last year with some improvements, including better NVH and a new 360-degree camera while maintaining the same prices. It starts at RM86,300 for the base Standard model, going up to RM93,300 for the Executive. The Premium and Flagship trims, on the other hand, are priced at RM101,800 and RM113,300 respectively.

As mentioned, the NVH of the updated X50 has been improved along with a new 360-degree camera; the latter was one of the shortcomings we highlighted in our review of the launch model. Aside from that, the infotainment system has also been upgraded with a faster chipset, and all variants of the SUV now feature a sizeable 10.3-inch infotainment display. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still not supported.

Under the hood, the Flagship variant of the X50 remains the sole model to be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged direct-injected three-cylinder engine that can do 177PS and 255Nm of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As for the other three models, they get a 1.5L port-injected engine that outputs 150PS and 226Nm of torque.

If you’re keen to book the Proton X50 – or even the new Sport Edition, which is limited to only 1,000 units – you can do so at your nearest Proton dealership. It’s worth noting, however, that Proton may be working on a facelift of the popular B-segment SUV already, though it remains to be seen exactly when it will be launched.
