Proton X50 Facelift Coming in 2025? Infotainment Unit Certified by SIRIM
January 8, 2025 Andrew Cheng

Now this is interesting: we have good reasons to believe that Proton is gearing up to launch a facelift of the hugely popular Proton X50 in the very near future. We say this because the infotainment unit of the Geely Binyue Cool has been certified by SIRIM, which should be the basis for the upcoming X50 facelift.

In our routine search through SIRIM’s database, we came across a car infotainment head unit (IHU) with the model number SX11-A3-PR-IHU-M, which was registered under ACO Tech just today on 8 January. We believe this is the infotainment system of the Binyue Cool, as the SX11-A3 moniker seems to be a reference to the Geely SUV.

Looking further back to 2023 and 2020, several IHUs tied to the SX11 moniker have also been registered with SIRIM. Timeline wise, this matches the original release of the X50 in 2020, and the Running Change model introduced last year.

It’s worth noting that the Binyue Cool was spotted testing on Malaysian roads – complete with Proton’s trade plate – since late 2023. With that in mind, it’s entirely possible the X50 facelift will be based on the Geely SUV. If this is the case, the updated X50 will look quite a bit more aggressive than the current model. Hopefully, the interior of the facelifted X50 will also follow suit the Binyue Cool’s more modern styling.

Of course, until there’s official confirmation from Proton, this is merely an educated guess on our part, though we are quite confident in our prediction. Nonetheless, we will keep a close eye for any relevant details that pertain to a facelift model of the Proton X50.
