Proton X50 Sport Edition Launching 16 January – Only 1,000 Units
January 13, 2025 Andrew Cheng

First previewed at KLIMS 2024, the Proton X50 Sport Edition is set to be launched later this week on 16 January. According to Proton, approximately 1,000 units of the limited edition model will be available, and the national carmaker added that a “special announcement” will also be made during the launch of the special model.

Based on the RM101,800 Premium variant of the B-segment SUV, the X50 Sport Edition – true to its name – comes with a number of unique, sporty design elements. These include blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels, a bodykit, and of course, a Sport Edition emblem.

Beyond the aesthetic changes, other specifications of the X50 Sport Edition remain the same as the standard Premium model. That means it is still powered by a 1.5L port-injected turbo engine that outputs 150PS and 226Nm of torque, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As it is based on the Premium trim of the X50, the Sport Edition does not come with the suite of ADAS features that are only found on the range-topping X50 Flagship.

To recap, the Proton X50 Sport Edition will be unveiled on 16 January this Thursday at 9PM through a virtual launch. What caught our attention is the “special announcement” that the national carmaker will be making at the virtual launch – perhaps it could be a teaser of the 2025 Proton X50 facelift?
