BYD Sold 4.27 Million Vehicles Globally in 2024 – Up 41% Compared to 2023
January 2, 2025 Andrew Cheng

BYD recorded over 4,272,145 sales globally in 2024 as reported by CarNewsChina, and this is the first time the Chinese carmaker broke past the 4 million sales mark. This is also an impressive 41% growth compared to its sales figure in 2023, where the company made about 3 million sales.

Of the 4.3 million cars BYD sold globally last year, 41.5% of them are made up of battery electric vehicles (BEV). More specifically, BYD sold 1,764,992 passenger BEVs, an increase of 12% from 1.6 million units sold in 2023.

But BEVs are not the majority of BYD’s global sales in 2024; it is actually the carmaker’s plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) that recorded higher sales. Over 2,485,378 passenger PHEVs were sold by BYD last year, accounting for 58.5% of BYD’s global sales. This is also a huge 72.8% growth from 1.4 million BYD PHEVs sold in 2023.

Evidently, these figures showcase BYD’s dominance in the EV (and PHEV) space. Here in Malaysia, the Chinese carmaker already launched as many as five different EV models, including the Sealion 7, M6, Seal, Dolphin, and of course, the Atto 3.
