After much teasing, the BYD M6 is finally launched in Malaysia. For our local market, the electric MPV features a seven-seat configuration; we’re not getting the six-seater model, it seems. Nonetheless, members of the public can see the new EV for themselves from 18 to 20 October at Dataran Karnival, Perkarangan Stadium Shah Alam.
Two variants of the BYD M6 are offered in Malaysia. The Standard model is priced at RM109,800, while the Extended variant with a bigger battery and more performance goes for RM123,800. Four colour options are available: Ink Stone Blue, Crystal White, Harbour Grey, and Cosmos Black.
Powering the Extended model of the BYD M6 is a 150kW (204PS) motor with 310Nm of torque, allowing the MPV to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 8.6 seconds. As for the more affordable Standard variant, it has a 120kW (163PS) motor – also with 310Nm of torque – for a 0-100kmph time of 10.1 seconds.
In terms of range, the Extended BYD M6 features up to 530km of range as measured on the (decidedly optimistic) NEDC cycle out of a 71.8kWh battery. The Standard model, on the other hand, offers up to 420km of NEDC range on a single charge from the 55.4kWh battery.
As for charging speeds, the Extended can draw up to 115kW of power with a DC charger, while the Standard supports 89kW DC charging. There’s no mention of AC charging speed, but it should be 7kW for both variants as per the global specification.
The BYD M6 is now available for booking in Malaysia, and customers can check out the electric MPV from 18 to 20 October at Dataran Karnival, Perkarangan Stadium Shah Alam. The first 100 to book any variant of the M6 at the event will even receive RM800 Gentari charging credit, while the first 300 bookings of the Extended model nationwide will be bundled with a free home charger.
