50% of New Governments Cars Will Be EVs in 2025

In line with the Malaysian government’s green aspirations, 50% of new governments cars will be EVs in 2025 as reported by Paultan.org. This is outlined in the Guidelines on the Transition of Government Vehicles to EV, which is drafted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) through the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC).

According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, transitioning government cars to EVs will not be carried out in one go. “It will be done in stages, but the process has already begun and will be finalised soon,” he said.

Although there’s no mention of any EV that the government will be getting for the transition to EVs, it makes sense for the Proton e.MAS 7 to be chosen. Aside from that, it’s possible Perodua’s own EV – which is set to be launched sometime next year – will be used by the government too. Basically, EVs from our national carmakers.

Of course, it’s possible the government will look into EVs from other brands as well. After all, the government does make use of various Honda vehicles, including the Honda Civic and Honda City currently in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)’s fleet.
