Naturally, now that the M4 MacBook Pro and iMac are available for purchase in Malaysia, the same applies to the M4 Mac mini. Powered by the Cupertino company’s M4 and M4 Pro chips, the smaller, even more compact desktop now retains the same RM2,499 starting price in Malaysia.
For that kind of money, the RM2,499 base model of the new Mac mini features an M4 chip with 10-core CPU and GPU, 16GB unified memory, and 256GB SSD storage. If you want the M4 Pro model instead with 12-Core GPU, 16-core GPU, 24GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD, that will set you back RM5,999.
So how much smaller is the new Mac mini? Well, it is now less than half the size of the previous model, measuring 5 by 5 inches – that’s 12.7cm, for us who are more familiar with the metric system. Of course, despite the smaller form factor, the compact desktop can still keep things running cool, thanks to the power efficiency of the M4 chips and an “innovative thermal architecture, which guides air to different levels of the system, while all venting is done through the foot,” as Apple puts it.
Performance wise, the updated Mac mini promises up to 1.8x faster CPU performance and 2.2x faster GPU performance compared to the M1 model. It also supports ray tracing now with Apple Intelligence, and it’s worth noting that it is touted as the first carbon neutral Mac too.
The M4 Mac mini can now be purchased in Malaysia through Apple’s official website from RM2,499. The compact desktop will start shipping to customers from 10 December onwards, so expect store pickup at Apple The Exchange TRX to be available then too.
