MacBook Pro Updated With M4 Chips, 24 Hours Battery Life, Lower RM6,999 Starting Price
November 1, 2024 Andrew Cheng

The last Mac to be updated this week alongside the new iMac and Mac mini is none other than the MacBook Pro. Not only is the laptop powered by the new M4 chips – including the M4 Pro and M4 Max – the prices of the MacBook Pro in Malaysia have been reduced quite a bit too.

Previously starting at RM7,499 for the base M3 model, the new M4-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro now retails from RM6,999. The M4 Pro configuration sees an even higher price drop, starting at RM8,499 (down from RM9,999). As for the M4 Max, it retails from RM13,999; quite a bit lower than the M3 Max’s RM14,799 starting price.

If you want the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro instead, the base M4 Pro model starts at RM10,999 (down from RM11,999), going up to RM15,299 (down from RM15,999) for the faster M4 Max variant.

Thanks to the new M4 chip, overall performance and battery life of the MacBook Pro have increased. Apple says the new laptop now offers up to 24 hours of use on a single charge, an increase from the already very long 22-hour battery life of the M3 model.

Besides that, there’s also the new nano-texture display option to minimise glare and reflections. Unlike how it is on the iMac, where the option is not offered on the base model, the nano-texture option can be configured on all variants of the M4 MacBook Pro for RM640. Oh, there’s also a new 12MP Centre Stage camera for improved video quality.

To recap, the M4 MacBook Pro starts at RM6,999 and RM10,999 in Malaysia for the 14-inch and 16-inch models respectively. While local prices have been revealed already, it remains to be seen exactly when the new laptops will be available for purchase on our shores, though we reckon it could go on sale sometime this month.
