September is usually a slow month for the automotive industry, and this is evident from Proton’s September 2024 sales. The national carmaker moved 11,269 units last month, which is slightly lower than its August 2024 sales of 12,690 units. Nonetheless, Proton continues to dominate the SUV market in Malaysia.
All three Proton SUV models dominate their respective segments in September. The Proton X70, for one, registered 1,466 units last month. Proton says this is the highest sales volume for the C-segment SUV since December 2022, and evidently, the facelift boosted the popularity of the model.
Next, there’s the Proton X50: 1,771 units were sold in September, retaining its leadership in the B-segment SUV market. The large Proton X90 also retook the top spot in the D-segment SUV category with 217 units sold, bringing its year-to-date figure to 2,724.
Proton also mentioned the Proton S70. With 1,013 units registered last month, total sales of the sedan now sit at 14,768 units. While it is not the best-selling C-segment sedan in September 2024, Proton says the S70 is still the cumulative sales leader. The carmaker expects sales of the S70 to increase once the Proton S70 R3 is unveiled for the Sepang 1000km Endurance Race in November.
“With two newly refreshed SUV models, and a new sedan in its first full year of sales, Proton is confident it has the necessary products to push sales volumes higher in the next three months. This will be boosted by our promotional activities and soon, we will launch a nationwide campaign to reward our customers with lucrative gifts and prizes,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.
“At the same time, our efforts to deliver a premium brand experience at outlets and improve after sales service will continue before culminating with the launch of our first EV offering in December,” he added. Of course, Roslan is talking about the Proton e.MAS 7, which is shaping up to be one the national carmaker’s most exciting models yet.
