Proton S70 R3 – Proton’s First Race Car Since 2019, Showcased at Malaysia Autoshow 2024
May 23, 2024 Andrew Cheng

At the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2024, Proton has a number of surprises at its booth, including the Proton S70 R3. This is the national carmaker’s first race car since 2019 with the Saga R3, and it marks Proton’s return to the Sepang 1,000km (S1K) endurance race.

As you can see from the images below, the S70 R3 is finished in the motorsport arm’s signature black and yellow colour scheme. It also has a sleek bodykit, a large rear spoiler, 15-inch alloy wheels, and of course, plenty of R3 brandings throughout the car.

While we were not allowed to get inside the S70 R3, we can see glimpses of the car’s interior through the windows. At the moment, the insides of the race car still look very much like a standard S70. The regulation roll cage has not been installed yet, and the cabin has not been stripped out either. Even the ADAS camera on the windscreen is still there, which is obviously not needed in a race car.

Evidently, the Proton S70 R3 showcased here still has some ways to go before it’s ready for the Sepang track. If you’re keen to take a look at the race car in person, you can do so at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in MAEPS Serdang until 26 May this weekend.
