The iPhone 16 series is now available in Malaysia! This is the first time our market is one of the first countries to get the Cupertino company’s latest smartphones, following the launch of the very first Apple Store on our shores, Apple The Exchange TRX.
Let’s talk prices. Surprise surprise, the new iPhone 16 lineup is more affordable than its predecessor at launch in Malaysia, starting with the base iPhone 16 from RM3,999; this is RM400 less than the price of entry for the iPhone 15 at launch. As for the iPhone 16 Plus, it retails from RM4,499.
Moving up, we have the iPhone 16 Pro, which starts at RM4,999. The larger iPhone 16 Pro Max, on the other hand, retails from RM5,999.
Powering the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is the new Apple A18 Pro chip, which promises up to 15% faster performance over the A17 Pro. The two phones also have bigger displays now; the Pro variant has a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max model comes with a 6.9-inch panel. Besides that, both phones also get a new Camera Control button below the power button, which can act as a shutter button and control zoom, exposure, as well as depth of field.
In the camera department, the iPhone 16 Pro devices feature a new 48MP primary camera with zero shutter lag and an updated 48MP ultra-wide lens. If you’re a fan of the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, you’ll be happy to know that the 12MP telephoto camera with 5x zoom is now offered on both the Pro and Pro Max models; no more compromise in camera hardware between the two Pro iPhones.
And then we have the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Instead of using an existing chip, the two iPhones is packed with the brand new Apple A18 chip, promising up to 30% faster performance. Also new to the base iPhones is the customisable Action Button, making it – and the Camera Control – standard feature for the entire iPhone 16 lineup.
In the camera department, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus feature a familiar (but improved) dual camera system made up of a 48MP main shooter and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Both phones also get bigger batteries, and with the improved power efficiency of the A18 chip, we can expect better battery life.
If you’re keen to see and touch the new iPhone 16 series in person, you can do so right now at Apple The Exchange TRX. To recap, the iPhone 16 starts at RM3,999, going up to RM4,499 for the iPhone 16 Plus. As for the higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, they start at RM4,999 and RM5,999.
