The iPhone 13 series is expected to be unveiled later this week on 15 September for us here in Malaysia. Usually, we’re not the first market to receive the latest iPhones, but this may change this year – the iPhone 13 has just been approved by SIRIM, our local certification body.
Just yesterday on 12 September, Apple Malaysia itself registered a smartphone with the model number A2643. Though the certification doesn’t mention that this is the iPhone 13, this model number does not match any iPhone in the market now, suggesting that this device belongs in the 2021 iPhone family.
Based on previous leaks and rumours, the iPhone 13 series is said to be similar to the iPhone 12 models, though there will be some design changes. Not only will the display notch be slightly smaller, the lens arrangement of the rear camera module is said to be revised too.
Aside from that, the Pro models of the 2021 iPhones are also expected to be sporting an ultra-wide angle camera with autofocus capability. Usually, ultra-wide angle sensors have a fixed focus, so this is quite a good upgrade, even if Apple is not the first phone maker to do so.
Once the iPhone 13 series is launched this Wednesday on 15 September at 1AM (Malaysian time), we’ll find out then if Malaysia will be one of the first markets to get the new iPhones. Aside from the iPhone 13, it’s possible the Cupertino company will reveal a number of other surprises too – maybe even a couple of new MacBook laptops.
