NovelKeys NK87 Pre-Orders Opening Soon – Below $300 Custom TKL Keyboard
February 10, 2021 Andrew Cheng

NovelKeys seems to be working on a new custom mechanical keyboard. Currently, the vendor only has two 65% keyboards – the NK65 Aluminium and NK65 Entry – but sometime this month, NovelKeys will release its first TKL keyboard, the NK87. On top of that, it will be priced rather competitively too (for a custom keyboard).

The existence of the NK87 was first confirmed by NovelKeys itself on one of Taeha Types’ streams embedded below. The vendor shared an actual product image of the upcoming custom mechanical keyboard, showing off the myriad of colours that will be offered. These include blue, black, white, beige, and even a bright yellow colour option, which looks very striking.

Unfortunately, not much details regarding the NK87 have been revealed so far, aside from some basic specifications. It will feature an aluminium case, a top-mount system, a textured finish akin to that of “older cameras” – seemingly only for certain colour options – and it will be largely similar to the NK65, but with improved acoustics for a better sound signature.

Of course, NovelKeys also shared the estimated pricing of the NK87. According to the vendor, the upcoming TKL mechanical keyboard will retail somewhere between $250 to $300 – that comes up to about RM1,010 to RM1,210. Do note that it’s likely the NK87 will not include switches and keycaps, so you need to get these two components separately to complete the keyboard.

Yes, the NovelKeys NK87 does cost quite a bit more money than an off-the-shelf keyboard of the same size, but it is a proper custom mechanical keyboard, which is (really) inherently superior. We should hear more from NovelKeys soon on exactly when the NK87 will be available – pre-orders for the keyboard are said to be open sometime this month.
