Sony Xperia 5 III Finally Registered with SIRIM – Launching in Malaysia Soon?

Previously, we were told that the Sony Xperia 5 III will be available in Malaysia sometime in August 2021. Since it’s already September now, we were wondering exactly when the compact flagship phone will actually be launched here. Well, we reckon this is happening very soon, given that the device has finally been registered with SIRIM.

While we were going through SIRIM’s database, we spotted the Xperia 5 III registered under Sony Malaysia with the model number XQ-BQ72 just yesterday on 3 September. This suggests that the phone is ready for its local debut, given that electronics need to be registered with SIRIM first before they can be officially sold here.

One of the headline features of the Xperia 5 III is its variable telephoto lens system, which allows the 12MP telephoto sensor to change its focal length between 70mm to 105mm. Paired with a “Dual PD sensor,” it promises fast autofocus speeds too, even when switching between different focal lengths. This phone also features a 12MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter.

Rounding out the hardware of the Xperia 5 III are a 6.1-inch 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, an 8MP selfie camera, a 4,500mAh battery, as well as an IP65/IP68 rating.

Given that the Sony Xperia 5 III has already been registered with SIRIM, we reckon it will be available for purchase in Malaysia very soon. If you’re wondering, this phone is set to go for RM4,599 locally.
