Aside from the Xperia 1 III, Sony Malaysia also listed the more compact Sony Xperia 5 III flagship smartphone on its website. Given its more compact form factor and slightly different hardware, it’s quite a bit more affordable too.
Compared to the Xperia 1 III much dearer RM5,799 asking price, the Xperia 5 III retails at only RM4,599. Of course, it’s still quite a steep price tag, but it does share a lot of the Xperia 1 III’s hardware, including the variable telephoto lens system.
Basically, this allows the 12MP telephoto sensor of the Xperia 5 III to change its focal length between 70mm to 105mm. Paired with a “Dual PD sensor,” it promises fast autofocus speeds too, even when switching between different focal lengths. This phone also features a 12MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter.
Rounding out the hardware of the Xperia 5 III are a 6.1-inch 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, an 8MP selfie camera, a 4,500mAh battery, as well as an IP65/IP68 rating.
Sony Malaysia previously told us that the Sony Xperia 5 III will be sold in Malaysia sometime next month in August 2021, so we reckon this is still the plan.
