Samsung may be more known for its range of high-end, flagship smartphones, but the Korean company’s more affordable devices are actually quite interesting as well. This is especially the case with its newer offerings, such as the Samsung Galaxy A31 – we believe this mid-range smartphone is coming to Malaysia very soon.
While we were going through SIRIM’s database, we notice that Samsung Malaysia registered a device with the model number SM-A315G/DS just yesterday on 20 April. We did a little digging, and we managed to find a support page of the device in question on Samsung Malaysia’s website itself. This is, in fact, the recently launched Galaxy A31.
Introduced to the world late last month, the Galaxy A31 offers a number of features that are quite interesting for a budget-oriented smartphone. For one, it comes with a large 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging. Not the fastest charging rate we’ve seen, but good enough for a phone in this segment.
Besides that, the Galaxy A31 also features a quad camera system on the back. It’s made up of a 48MP f/2.0 main sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle shooter, a 5MP f/2.4 depth camera, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro lens. While it doesn’t have a telephoto sensor, this is quite an elaborate camera setup for a mid-ranger.
Just like any other Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy A31 features a 6.4-inch 2400 x 1080 Super AMOLED screen with an Infinity-U design; that is, there’s a U-shaped notch at the top of the display. What’s even more interesting is the fact that this smartphone also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
However, some folks may not be thrilled by the chipset that powers the Galaxy A31: a MediaTek Helio P65 SoC. It’s a decidedly mid-range processor launched last year, and while it’s not an awfully powerful chip, it should be able to offer a reasonably good level of performance for everyday use.
Other specifications of the Galaxy A31 include a 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, two storage options (64GB and 128GB), a microSD card slot, as well as four colour options: Prism Crush Blue, Black, Red, and White.
It remains to be seen exactly when the Samsung Galaxy A31 will be offered in Malaysia, but given that it has already been registered with SIRIM, we reckon it will be happening very soon. It’ll be interesting to see exactly how much Samsung Malaysia will price the Galaxy A31 for our market. For the sake of comparison, the Galaxy A51 retails at RM1,299 when it was first launched here.
