If you’re thinking of getting into the custom mechanical keyboard scene – and you’re not quite sure where to start – consider this one right here: the NovelKeys NK65 Milkshake Edition. It’s the perfect board for those who are new to the hobby, and it’s finally available for pre-order now.
You can pre-order the NK65 from four different proxies, and it’s best to get the keyboard from the proxy closest to your location even if they’re priced differently on each site. These proxies are zFrontier (Asia), Oblotzky Industries (Europe), DailyClack (Australia), and NovelKeys itself for the US market.
If you’re here in Malaysia, pre-ordering the NK65 from zFrontier is the best option. Sure, it costs $230 (about RM945) to get it from there – which is $40 more than getting it directly from NovelKeys – but keep in mind that zFrontier is including shipping cost in the price. Plus, zFrontier is the Asian proxy, so shipping time to Malaysia will be better than getting it from the other three proxies.
What makes the NK65 such an attractive keyboard, especially for those who are new to the hobby, is the fact that it’s a completely assembled keyboard with neat features. It has a hotswap PCB with per key RGB lighting, NovelKeys’ own Silk Yellow linear switches (factory lubed with the popular Krytox 205g0), and dye-sublimated PBT keycaps in Cherry profile.

Pre-order for the keyboard will run until 3 October, and do note that it will only start shipping sometime in February or March 2021. It’s a bit of a long wait, but the NK65 is easily one of the best keyboards for beginners.
