Genshin Impact 1.2 Arrives 23 December; Ganyu, Albedo & Dragonspine Incoming

Mihoyo just revealed a lot more details on Genshin Impact’s upcoming Version 1.2 update. Not only are we getting a new area (Dragonspine), the 1.2 update will also see the debut of two new 5-star characters: Ganyu and Albedo.

It’s not confirmed yet just which of the two 5-star characters will be introduced first, but given that Ganyu’s “Sinae Unicornis” story quest will only be released in mid-January 2021 – while Albedo’s “Princeps Cretaceus” quest is set to go live after the Version 1.2 update – it’s likely that Albedo’s banner will go live first on 23 December.

It makes sense for Albedo to be available in the game earlier, given that Version 1.2 will introduce a new seasonal event called The Chalk Prince and the Dragon. This event will see the Traveler joining forces with Albedo to investigate a mysterious sword called the Festering Desire. In fact, players can actually obtain and fully refine that sword (it’s a 4-star weapon) through this event.

Of course, there’s also the new Dragonspine map, which introduces the new Sheer Cold mechanic. Given the cold climate of Dragonspine, players will need to find ways to keep warm in the new area. Otherwise, Sheer Cold will slowly chip away at the player’s health. Naturally, new enemies and craftable weapons can also be found in Dragonspine.

Genshin Impact’s Version 1.2 update will go live on 23 December 2020, right after the current Zhongli banner (Gentry of Hermitage) ends on 22 December. For other new changes that will be introduced in Version 1.2, check out our previous article.
