Cherry MX2A Switch – Revamped Mold, Barrel Spring, 205g0 Factory Lube

After many, many years, Cherry is overhauling its lineup of switches. Dubbed Cherry MX2A, the new switches feature a slew of updates, including an updated mold, barrel spring design, and factory lubing that is “similar” to the popular Krytox 205g0 lube for improved performance and sound profile.

Let’s start with the updated mold of MX2A switches. Compared to the original mold, the new one features a redesigned, polished rail for improved smoothness. The stem is updated with a “crown” design too, which promises less wobble for a more stable typing experience.

As for the MX2A’s barrel spring, it is said to offer more consistent spring force across different switches, “delivering a keystroke that feels uniform every single time,” as the company puts it. The ring of the bottom housing – where the spring sits – is also lubed with an oil-based grease that is said to mirror the properties of Krytox 205g0.

The new Cherry MX2A switches will replace the company’s current portfolio, which includes the MX Black, MX Red, MX Brown, MX Blue, MX Speed Silver, MX Silent Red, and MX Silent Black. Do note that some of these switches do not feature all of the improvements brought by the MX2A update, such as the MX Blue clicky switch – this particular model will not come with factory lube.
