Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ Review: Fast, Premium AI-Powered Tablet for a Price
November 20, 2024 Andrew Cheng

If you’ve always wanted Samsung’s Galaxy AI features on a tablet, well, you can get just that with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+. It is touted as the first Samsung tablet – alongside the larger Tab S10 Ultra – “purposefully built for AI,” and beyond that, it has all the makings of a high-end, premium tablet too.

But that also means the Galaxy Tab S10+ carries a premium price tag. Starting at RM4,599, it doesn’t offer particularly great value for money. That being said, I do think it’s a price worth paying for folks that need the feature set of the Tab S10+, including the S Pen, a good level of performance, and of course, the slew of Galaxy AI features.

On paper, the Galaxy Tab S10+ is a reasonably well-equipped Android tablet. While the Dimensity 9300+ chipset doesn’t sound particularly impressive, it’s actually quite a capable chip. Oh, the tablet has an IP68 rating too, allowing it to be submerged up to 1.5m underwater for 30 minutes.

As mentioned, one of the main highlights of the Galaxy Tab S10+ are the neat AI-powered features courtesy of Galaxy AI. These include Sketch to Image, which turns sketches into…well, images using generative AI, as well as the incredibly convenient Circle to Search, letting users quickly look up subjects by circling them on the screen.

Since I’m talking about these AI features already, let’s get more in-depth in the following section.

The Good Stuff

Of all the Galaxy AI smarts offered on the Galaxy Tab S10+, the one I find myself using the most is certainly Sketch to Image. This feature works particularly well on the S10+, thanks to its larger display and the inclusion of the S Pen. Yes, it is by no means a groundbreaking feature, but I do find Sketch to Image quite entertaining to see what kind of images it can generate from a simple doodle.

Aside from that, I’m still very fond of Galaxy AI’s Interpreter app, which can translate a conversation in real time. Yes, it’s not quite as practical as having the feature on a more compact smartphone, but hey, I can still use it to practice my (very limited) Chinese vocabulary.

Next, there’s the performance of the Galaxy Tab S10+, which is really quite good. The Dimensity 9300+ chipset allows me to multitask seamlessly with multiple apps, and I can even run demanding mobile games like Zenless Zone Zero at 60fps with maxed out graphics settings on the tablet.

Further enhancing the gameplay experience of the Tab S10+ is the bright and vibrant 12.4-inch 2800 x 1752 Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. This being an AMOLED panel, colours are vibrant with deep, true blacks and wide viewing angles. The screen’s 120Hz refresh rate lends to extra smooth animations too.

Besides that, the Galaxy Tab S10+ can actually serve as a pretty good productivity machine as well. The keyboard cover – which is bundled for free right now – is quite good with enough key travel to provide a comfortable typing experience. While the typing angle is a tad too flat for my liking, I do like the tactility of the keys.

As for battery life, the Tab S10+’s sizeable 10,090mAh battery can easily provide me multiple days of use on a single charge. I use the tablet mainly for content consumption with some web browsing and word processing, and I only needed to charge it up after about three days of use; that’s very respectable battery life.

Last but not least is the build quality of the Tab S10+, which is decidedly premium. Not only does it look and feel great with an Armor Aluminium frame, I also appreciate the fact that the tablet has dust and water resistance with an IP68 rating.

The Bad Stuff

As much as I enjoy using the Galaxy Tab S10+, I still find its RM4,599 starting price hard to swallow, which goes up to a whopping RM5,249 for cellular connectivity. At this price point, the Tab S10+ has to contend with other tablets that offer superior value for money, though it’s worth mentioning that most of them still can’t quite compete with the sheer functionalities of the S Pen.

On the brightside, at least the keyboard cover – dubbed Book Cover Keyboard Slim by Samsung – is bundled for free with the Tab S10+ right now. Given that the keyboard normally costs RM749, that’s good added value.

Is It Worth It?

Even though the value proposition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ isn’t great, there’s no denying that it has a complete set of features with a premium appeal. It also comes with a good level of performance, a water-resistant design, the very useful S Pen, and of course, Galaxy AI smarts. In short, there are plenty of things to love about the high-end tablet.

Paired with the keyboard cover, it’s certainly possible for the Galaxy Tab S10+ to serve as a laptop replacement for folks who don’t need any specific software that’s not available on the tablet. Still, if the Tab S10+ is just a tad more affordable, it would’ve been a much easier tablet to recommend – perhaps it’s best to grab it at a discount during special sales.
