November 1, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Seems like even the MacBook Air is getting some love from Apple this week. While it doesn’t get the M4 chip upgrade like the other Mac machines, it does feature more memory now. All base variants of the M3 (and even M2) models now get double the starting memory at 16GB, and the starting prices have also been lowered in Malaysia.

Now, the 13-inch MacBook Air M3 starts at RM4,999 (down from RM5,199) in Malaysia, while the larger 15-inch MacBook Air M3 retails from RM5,999 (down from RM6,199). As for the 13-inch MacBook Air M2, it now starts at RM4,499; quite a bit lower than the previous RM4,799 starting price.

Compared to the M2 model, the latest M3 MacBook Air can now output to two external displays. This is possible even with the lid closed, and the new laptop features twice as fast WiFi as well, thanks to support for WiFi 6E. Beyond that, other specifications of the new MacBook Air remain the same, including a Liquid Retina display, MagSafe 3 charging with two Thunderbolt ports, and of course, up to 18 hours of battery life despite packing a more powerful chip.

Unlike the other updated Macs, the upgraded base models of the M3 and M2 MacBook Air with more memory are now available for purchase in Malaysia. To recap, the 13-inch M2 model now retails from RM4,499, while the newer M3-powered 13-inch and 15-inch variants start at RM4,999 and RM5,999 respectively.
