Budget 2025: RON95 Targeted Subsidy Only Happening in Mid-2025
October 18, 2024 Andrew Cheng

The question on RON95 subsidy is finally answered with certainty at the ongoing tabling of Budget 2025. According to Prime Minister (and Finance Minister) Anwar Ibrahim, targeted subsidy of the RON95 fuel will only take place sometime in the middle of 2025.

Anwar emphasised that for the majority of Malaysians – 85% of them, according to the PM – will still be able to enjoy RON95 subsidy. Once the targeted subsidy is in effect, the price of RON95 should be floated, much like how it is for diesel now.

The blanket subsidy on diesel was lifted back on 10 June, and it is currently going for RM2.95/litre. However, this is only applicable in Peninsular Malaysia for now; Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan residents can still enjoy the old RM2.15/litre price for diesel.

Of course, some parties are still eligible for diesel subsidy – the government’s Budi programme offers a RM200/month diesel subsidy for Malaysians who are earning less than RM100,000 annually. They also must own a diesel-based personal vehicle that is less than 10 years old.

If you’re eligible for the RM200/month diesel subsidy, you can submit your application on https://budimadani.gov.my/. Do note that at the moment, applications will remain open throughout the year, so you won’t have to worry about missing any deadline until further notice.
