BYD is set to launch the new BYD M6 electric MPV in Malaysia tomorrow on 15 October. Ahead of the EV’s local launch, the carmaker teased the seating configuration of the model, and it seems like the Malaysian market is getting the M6 with a seven-seat configuration.
The carmaker showed off the interior of the M6 on its Facebook page, confirming the seven-seat configuration of the MPV for Malaysia. It’s worth noting that in both Indonesia and Thailand, the EV is actually offered with six seats too; it remains to be seen if we’re also getting that seating configuration on our shores.
While exact specifications of the BYD M6 for the Malaysian market have not been revealed yet, we can reference the variants offered in our neighbouring countries. In Indonesia, for example, two different electric motors are available; either a 120kW (163PS) motor with 310Nm of torque, or a more powerful 150kW (204PS) motor with the same torque figure.
As for range, it ranges (excuse the pun) from 420km to 530km on a single charge, though this is measured using the more optimistic NEDC cycle. In terms of DC charging, it can draw either 85kW or 115kW of power, depending on the variant. AC charging, on the other hand, is limited to 7kW for all variants.
We’ll find out more about the BYD M6 and what it has to offer once the electric MPV is launched in Malaysia tomorrow on 15 October. Interested customers can also register their interests for the public preview from 18 to 20 October in Dataran Karnival, Perkarangan Stadium Shah Alam through BYD Malaysia’s official website.
