2025 Proton X70 Facelift Now in East Malaysia – From RM101k, Enhanced Aftersales Assured
August 29, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Unveiled in Peninsular Malaysia exactly two weeks ago, Proton just launched the 2025 Proton X70 facelift in East Malaysia. This is the first time the national carmaker is holding a separate launch of the C-segment SUV for Sabah and Sarawak, and Proton assures customers in the region parts will be readily available, thanks to the two Regional Parts Centres (RPC) in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

Of course, the facelifted X70 does cost slightly more in Sabah and Sarawak compared to Peninsular Malaysia; RM2,000 more across the range, to be specific. This puts the Standard 2WD base model at RM100,800, while the Executive 2WD is priced at RM112,800. As for the Premium 2WD, it goes for RM125,800, and the range-topping Premium X 2WD costs RM128,800.

There is also an early bird package for the first 3,000 customers, which offers up to RM23,500 worth of added value.

Naturally, the facelifted X70 features a new design. The front end, for one, looks much more modern now with slimmer LED headlights and a new grille design. Of course, the Infinite Weave (now in a diamond pattern) and Ethereal Bow design motifs are all still here and updated; it’s unmistakably a Proton.

However, the rear end of the new X70…doesn’t look all that different from the current model with the same taillights. Nonetheless, the rear bumper does get a slight redesign with horizontal (instead of vertical) reflectors and fake corner air outlets now. Personally, we think the 2025 X70 would look better if it had also taken the taillights of the facelifted 2022 Geely Boyue instead of just the headlights.

Nonetheless, the interior of the refreshed X70 gets some much-needed upgrades. Aside from the new ambient light system – which does look quite good – the “floating” 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is the highlight here, as it finally supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto! That being said, we were told that these two features won’t be supported at launch; they will be added through an OTA in the near future.

Another new addition to the X70 facelift is a more sophisticated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). New features include adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering control, rear collision warning, and even traffic sign information. Basically, the new X70 has the same ADAS as its siblings now, including the X90 and S70.

Aside from these changes, all variants of the facelifted X70 still soldier on with the same 1.5L TGDi three-cylinder turbo engine that outputs 130kW (177PS) and 255Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the front wheels – that’s right, no more AWD variant is offered – through a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. While the drivetrain configuration remains the same, Proton did say refinements have been made to improve fuel efficiency (7.3L/100km) and NVH at lower speeds.

“We are thrilled to introduce the 2025 Proton X70 to East Malaysia, an important region with opportunities to enhance market shares. This ceremony is more than just about unveiling a new vehicle; it is about reinforcing our commitment to East Malaysia,” said the CEO of Proton, Li Chunrong.

“The unique needs of buyers here and their strong connection to the brand have always driven us to deliver the best products and services. With its updated features and refined styling, we are hopeful the 2025 Proton X70 will drive Proton to the head of the premium SUV market in East Malaysia,” he added.
