Geely Galaxy E5 Launched in China From 112,800 Yuan – Basis for Proton e.MAS 7

Over the weekend, the Geely Galaxy E5 made its debut in China. The electric SUV is set to be the basis for the upcoming Proton e.MAS 7 – which will be unveiled sometime in December 2024 – and as expected of a Geely model, the Galaxy E5 is priced very competitively.

As reported by CarNewsChina, five different variants of the Galaxy E5 are offered in China with prices ranging from 112,800 Chinese yuan (about RM69,580) to a cool 148,800 yuan (approximately RM91,790). Evidently, the EV offers very good value for money; hopefully the value proposition will translate to the e.MAS 7 as well.

For that kind of money, the Galaxy E5 features a front-mounted electric motor that outputs 160kW (218PS) and 320Nm of torque, allowing the EV to sprint from 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds. It also has two battery options (49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh), providing CLTC ranges of up to 440km and 530km respectively.

Speaking of which, the Galaxy E5 is the first Geely model to be equipped with the Chinese carmaker’s new Aegis “short-blade” lithium iron phosphate battery. Not only does it feature an energy density of 192Wh/kg – so the cell is more compact and efficient – it has also been tested for over 3,500 charging cycles, which Geely says is the equivalent of over one million kilometre total range.

The Geely Galaxy E5 is certainly a promising electric SUV, especially at this price range. Hopefully, the Proton e.MAS 7 will feature similar specifications and (more importantly) prices that are just as competitive.
