Just as we have previously reported, Proton’s first-ever EV is called the e.MAS 7! Not only did the national carmaker confirmed the name of the electric SUV, the car itself is also shown off, confirming that it will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5.
The ties between the e.MAS 7 and the Galaxy E5 is obvious even though the unit that is previewed to members of the media is still covered in camouflage. On that note, Proton is adamant that the e.MAS 7 is not to be referred as a “rebadge” of the E5; rather, the car is co-developed between the two carmakers.
In fact, between Proton and Geely, over 700,000 manhours and 10 million km of testing have been done for the e.MAS 7 to date.
Aside from that, several specifications of the e.MAS 7 that were detailed at the media preview match that of the Galaxy E5’s, so it’s likely the two models share similar features. There’s no mention of power output, though the E5 does feature a front-mounted electric motor that can do 218PS (160 kW) and 320Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0-100kmph in 6.8 second.
Proton also reiterated that a Proton e.MAS super app is currently in development that will mirror the functionalities of the Hello smart app; it is said to deliver a “seamless and tailored experience for Malaysian customers.” On top of that, 29 e.MAS outlets have been confirmed too. Given that the carmaker’s goal is to open 30 e.MAS dealerships by 2025, it is very close to achieving that already.
As Proton have previously announced, the Proton e.MAS 7 will make its debut sometime in December 2024. “Our goal with the Proton e.MAS 7 is to fulfil our promise of delivering Malaysia’s first national all-electric vehicle. With the groundbreaking technology embedded in it, we are confident it will not only impress with its innovative breakthroughs but also deeply resonate with our audience on an emotional level,” said the CEO of Proton, Li Chunrong.
“As we eagerly anticipate its imminent presence on the roads, we are excited to reveal more about the Proton e.MAS 7 in the coming months,” he added.
