Exclusive: Proton e.MAS7 – Could This Be Proton’s First EV Model?
July 2, 2024 Andrew Cheng

It’s known that Proton will be unveiling its first-ever EV sometime in December 2024 under the e.MAS sub-brand, but what we don’t know is what the upcoming model will be called. Well, based on our recent findings, we believe it will be called the Proton e.MAS7.

Turns out, Proton actually trademarked e.MAS7 on 13 June last month alongside the e.MAS brand name with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). Taking into account that a logo (shown below) is accompanied with the e.MAS7 application, there’s a good chance this is what Proton’s first EV model will be called.

In retrospect, the e.MAS7 name does make sense, given that there are rumours the first e.MAS model will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5. After all, measuring 4,615mm long, 1,901mm wide, 1,670 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,750mm, the electric SUV is quite a bit bigger than the Proton X70, though the Proton X90 is longer and taller than the Galaxy E5. With that in mind, the “7” moniker fits the EV.

Of course, until Proton has actually revealed the model name for its first EV, there’s a chance it will not be called the Proton e.MAS7. Take the Proton S70: many initially believe (ourselves included) it will be called the Proton S50 based on the fact that it’s based on the same platform as the X50.

Nonetheless, we will find out just what the first Proton e.MAS model will be called come December 2024. We have a good feeling it will be named the e.MAS7, though it’s still too early to say this with certainty.
