PM Anwar: RON95 Subsidy Not Happening Yet
July 23, 2024 Andrew Cheng

After the government’s decision to float the price of diesel in Malaysia as part of the diesel subsidy rationalisation, many wonder if – or rather, when – the same will apply to RON95 petrol. Well, Prime Minister (and Finance Minister) Anwar Ibrahim is reiterating again that RON95 subsidy will remain as it is for now.

As reported by The Star, Anwar said that “the matter has not been discussed. We will deal with the diesel issue first, to give better and the right explanation.” He added that this is necessary because “sometimes, certain parties will spin the issue.”

Back on 10 June, the blanket subsidy on diesel is no longer applicable, and it is currently going for RM3.35/litre. However, this is only applicable in Peninsular Malaysia for now; Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan residents can still enjoy the old RM2.15/litre price for diesel.

Of course, some parties are still eligible for diesel subsidy – the government’s Budi programme offers a RM200/month diesel subsidy for Malaysians who are earning less than RM100,000 annually. They also must own a diesel-based personal vehicle that is less than 10 years old.

If you’re eligible for the RM200/month diesel subsidy, you can submit your application on https://budimadani.gov.my/. Do note that at the moment, applications will remain open throughout the year, so you won’t have to worry about missing any deadline until further notice.
