Oppo’s latest premium mid-range smartphones have just been launched in Malaysia. What makes the Oppo Reno 12 series particularly interesting is the suite of AI features – dubbed Oppo AI – that the two phones feature, which is quite intriguing for mid-range smartphones.
First, prices. Here in Malaysia, the base Reno 12 with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage is priced at RM2,199. The higher-end Reno 12 Pro, on the other hand, retails at RM2,599 with the same 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration.
So what is Oppo AI? Well, it comes with a number of generative AI features. These include AI Eraser 2.0 to remove unwanted subjects in a picture; AI Clear Face, which increases the clarity and reduces distortion of up to 10 faces in a single shot; as well as AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 that allows quick cut out of people and pets from photos.
Hardware wise, the Reno 12 Pro features a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, a 6.7-inch 2412 x 1080 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a triple camera configuration (50MP main + 50MP telephoto + 8MP ultra-wide), a 50MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 80W charging.
As for the Reno 12, it also comes with a Dimensity 7300-Energy chip with the same battery capacity and charging rate, though it has a dual curved AMOLED display instead with a more modest camera setup. Its triple camera system is made up of a 50MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is a 32MP unit.
