Oppo announced not too long ago that it wants to make AI phones accessible to everyone, and the Chinese company is doing so with its range of Reno mid-range smartphones. The new Oppo Reno 12 Pro here, for one, has “Oppo AI Phone” printed on the box itself.
Even though Oppo hasn’t quite revealed the full feature set of the Reno 12 Pro for the global market yet, AI is certainly shaping up to be a big feature for the device. On top of that, it looks quite a bit sleeker than the Reno 11 Pro too, which I will get into in this unboxing of the mid-range smartphone.
The first thing you’ll see when you open up the box of the Reno 12 Pro is the phone itself wrapped in a plastic packaging. A plastic screen protector has also been applied to the phone, so you won’t have to worry about getting one if you’re afraid of scratching the actual display itself (like myself).
On top of that, a clear case that looks to be made from TPU is bundled with the Reno 12 Pro too, which should be able to protect the phone from accidental drops. Aside from that, there’s also an 80W charging brick included – suggesting that the phone does support 80W charging like its predecessor – along with a USB-C to USB-A cable.
This is the Reno 12 Pro in Nebula Silver, and in my opinion, it does look quite nice with a unique ripple-like design on the back panel. It also has a matte finish, so it can hide fingerprints quite well. Oh, notice the “AI camera system” wording on the camera module; interesting, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, there’s a media embargo on the Reno 12 Pro’s full hardware, so I can’t reveal the exact specifications of the upcoming mid-range phone. However, Oppo did confirm that the phone will feature AI Portrait Expert, so expect the camera system to be focused on portrait shots.
Besides that, it’s worth noting that the Reno 12 Pro also comes with a 5,000mAh battery as revealed by Oppo. This is quite a bit bigger than the Reno 11 Pro’s 4,600mAh cell, so it’s possible the new phone will feature even better battery life.
The Oppo Reno 12 Pro is now available for pre-order in Malaysia with a RM50 (non-refundable) deposit. Those who place an order for the phone (or the standard Reno 12) by 7 July will also get a RM100 discount on the phone once it’s released, along with a number of unspecified freebies.
It remains to be seen exactly when the Oppo Reno 12 series will be launched in Malaysia. But given that the pre-order period is ending on 7 July, it’s possible the mid-range smartphones will start shipping by then. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye for any relevant local development.
