Proton is teasing an “electrifying” event for 12 June later this week. Chances are, the national carmaker will be announcing the brand name for its upcoming EV on that day, given that the naming contest has concluded last week on 5 June.

Over the past couple of days, Proton has been dropping hints on what we can expect from the 12 June event. From its journey to a “future of sustainability” and leaping into “an electric transformation,” there’s little doubt the carmaker will be sharing some sort of news on its EV development.

Expected to be released sometime in 2025, Proton’s first-ever EV could very well be an SUV. After all, the silhouette of the car pictured in the Proton EV brand name contest looks very much like an SUV, though it’s entirely possible it is merely a placeholder.

Nonetheless, we’ll find out more about the Proton EV come 12 June this Wednesday. It’ll be interesting to see how much the national carmaker will be revealing at the EV event; perhaps we’ll get more than just the brand name for Proton’s electric model?
