Only six more days to the launch of the highly anticipated Proton S70 on 28 November next week, and there’s a chance the C-segment sedan’s pricing will start below the RM85,000 price point. Not only would this make it more affordable than the two B-segment sedan staples – the Honda City and Toyota Vios – the S70 will be priced below the X50 as well.
This information comes from RHB Investment Bank analyst, Syahril Hanafiah, in a report by Berita Harian. For context, the City currently starts at RM84,900, while the Vios retails from RM89,600. As for the X50, the base Standard model is priced at RM86,300.
To recap, four different variants of the S70 are offered: Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X, which is the model you see here. All variants of the S70 are also powered by the same 1.5L turbo engine that produces 150PS and 226Nm of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In the safety side of things, the S70’s ADAS is said to be similar to the X90‘s, albeit with the omission of Auto Park Assist (APA) and Emergency Lane Keep Assist (ELKA). That being said, this is still a very sophisticated ADAS, especially for a C-segment sedan. Not only does it have 12 different sensors, it also supports Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Centering Control, Lane Change Assist, and even Traffic Sign Information.
However, it’s worth noting that only the top two models of the S70 – Flagship and Flagship X, with the latter adding on a sunroof – are equipped with ADAS. You don’t get these active safety features with the base Executive or mid-tier Premium models. Nonetheless, at least the inclusion of six airbags is standard across the range.
The Proton S70 will be launched in Malaysia next week on 28 November; we’ll find out the local pricing of the C-segment sedan then. If you’d like to learn more about the S70, check out our test drive and walkaround video of the upcoming model.
