Proton S70 – 2,000 Sales Target a Month, 400 Bookings Received in First Week
November 9, 2023 Andrew Cheng

The Proton S70 is expected to be launched in Malaysia sometime this month, and the Deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah, revealed some interesting details. According to a report by Bernama, Roslan said that the national carmaker is targeting to sell about 2,000 units of the upcoming sedan every month.

Roslan further added that the S70 has received over 400 orders in the first week of booking. The carmaker expects more bookings to be placed once public previews for the C-segment sedan are underway, which will start from 11 November this Saturday at “several major Malaysian state capitals.”

Based on previous leaks and rumours, we believe all variants of the S70 – four of them are said to be offered – will be powered by a sole 1.5L MPI turbo engine; the same one found in the X50 lineup. The turbo mill outputs 150PS and 226Nm of torque, and Proton confirmed that the sedan will be packed with a dual-clutch transmission. This is likely the same 7DCT used by the X50 and X70.

Aside from that, six airbags look to be standard across the S70 range, as well as ABS, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control system, and hill hold assist. However, only the Flagship and Flagship X – which adds on a sunroof – feature advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It is said to be similar to the X90’s sophisticated ADAS, though it doesn’t include emergency lane keeping assist and auto park assist.

Bookings for the Proton S70 are now open at all Proton 3S and 4S outlets, with public previews happening from 11 November. Chances are, the previews will be reserved for customers who have placed a booking for the sedan. Production has started for the S70, so it is very likely the sedan will be launched sometime this month, just as promised.
