Google unveiled a slew of new hardware at its annual Google I/O keynote. These include the Pixel 7A smartphone, a new Pixel Tablet, and the most exciting of the bunch, the Pixel Fold foldable smartphone akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Pixel Fold

It’s been rumoured (and leaked) for quite some time now, so it’s good to finally see the Pixel Fold materialise. It has the same tablet-like form factor as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, though it is more compact and it closes flat; there are no gaps when the device is folded.

Aside from that, the Pixel Fold also features a 7.6-inch 2208 x 1840 inner display along with a 5.8-inch 2092 x 1080 cover screen – both are OLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate – Google’s Tensor G2 chip paired with 12GB of RAM and 256/512GB storage, a triple camera system (48MP primary + 10.8MP ultra-wide + 10.8MP telephoto), a 9.5MP selfie camera on the cover screen (8MP for the inner screen), and a 4,821mAh battery.

The Pixel Fold is available for pre-order in the US now for a cool $1,799, which comes up to about RM8,030.

Pixel 7a

And then we have the budget-friendly Pixel 7a. Despite its more affordable nature, it’s still powered by the same Tensor G2 processor as the rest of the current Pixel lineup, including the Pixel 7 series and Pixel Fold. With that in mind, it should be able to offer a good level of performance.

Other specifications of the Pixel 7a include a 6.1-inch 2400 x 1080 OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a dual camera system (64MP main + 13MP ultra-wide), a 13MP selfie camera, and a 4,385mAh battery. The phone is now available for purchase in the US for $499 (about RM2,225).

Pixel Tablet

Last but not least is the Pixel Tablet, which doubles as a…tablet, and a smart display (to an extent) when it’s connected to the provided Charging Speaker Dock. Just like the other Pixel devices here, the Pixel Tablet is powered by the same Tensor G2 chip.

Rounding out the specifications of the Pixel Tablet are a 10.95-inch 2560 x 1600 LCD display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, 8MP cameras on the front and back, as well as a 27Wh battery. The tablet is currently on pre-order (in the US, naturally) from $499, the same price point as the Pixel 7a.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that any of these Pixel devices will be officially available in Malaysia, given the absence of Google’s range of hardware on our shores. Nonetheless, expect parallel importers to bring in the products here, for better or worse.
