If you’re still waiting for the all-new Honda BR-V to be introduced here, we have bad news: Honda Malaysia confirmed that the MPV has been discontinued for the Malaysian market. Taking its place in the carmaker’s local product lineup is, well, none other than the upcoming Honda WR-V.
According to Honda Malaysia, it sees demand for a small SUV like the WR-V on our shores over the likes of the BR-V, a seven-seater MPV. The model was first introduced in Malaysia six years ago in 2017, which was then facelifted in 2020 with some styling changes and an updated interior.
Positioned below the HR-V, the WR-V is a direct competitor to another popular small SUV on our shores, the Perodua Ativa. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how Honda Malaysia will price the WR-V in our market. While we don’t expect it to be in the same price range as Perodua’s offering, we reckon it will be one of Honda Malaysia’s more affordable models.
The Honda WR-V is expected to be launched in Malaysia sometime in Q3 2023, so it could debut locally as early as July 2023. We’ll find out then just how much it will be priced at for the Malaysian market, which could very well shake up the small SUV market here.
