Sony is increasing the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 in selected markets due to the “global economic environment.” These include Europe, Canada, Middle East, Africa, and even here in Asia-Pacific (APAC). Curiously, there is no price increase for the console in the US.
The percentage of the price hike is dependent on the market. In Europe, for example, it’s about a 10% increase, while the UK sees a slightly less 6% price hike. For those who are curious, here are the new prices of the PS5 in selected markets:

- PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – AUD $799.95

While Malaysia is not listed, Sony mentioned that selected markets in APAC not mentioned may also receive price increases. Nonetheless, we’ve reached out to the company to find out if our local market is affected by the price hike or not – we’ll update this article accordingly once we’ve received a response.
Update 25 August, 5:50PM: It’s now confirmed that Malaysia is affected by the PS5’s price hike. The next-gen console now starts at RM2,069, which is a RM200 price increase. Click here to read more about it.
