The 2022 Proton X70 is here! Now, this isn’t technically a facelift, as the exterior of the new C-segment SUV remains (largely) the same as the previous model. Rather, Proton calls this a Minor Change (MC), and the updated X70 has a number of additions, including the X50‘s 1.5L turbo engine and AWD option.
Before we get to that, let’s talk about the 2022 X70’s prices first. As many as five different variants of the SUV are offered: the base 1.5 Standard model costs RM93,900, while the 1.5 Executive goes for RM105,500 or RM111,300 for the AWD option.
And then we have the two range-topping models, the 1.5 Premium (RM117,900) and 1.8 Premium (RM121,800), which is essentially the previous Premium X trim under a different name. These prices are with sales tax exemption applied until the end of the month, and the SUV comes with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
The biggest change to the 2022 X70 is definitely the 1.5L three-cylinder turbo engine; the same one found under the hood of the X50. As before, it outputs 177PS and 255Nm of torque paired with a (retuned) seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
As teased, the new X70 also gets new 19-inch alloy wheels, which were first seen on the SE model. However, this new alloy wheel design is only reserved for the Premium models. They are are also the only trim levels to get the ADAS active safety suite, including autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Other standard equipment of the X70 MC remain the same, including automatic headlights, six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, and an 8-inch infotainment screen with GKUI. It’s worth noting that the latter will be updated to ACO Tech’s ATLAS system sometime in the future.
The 2022 Proton X70 MC is now available for booking in Malaysia. Given that the national carmaker is still listing the prices of the new C-segment SUV with sales tax exemption applied – which is set to end on 30 June – there’s a chance you can get the car as soon as this month.
