ACO Tech Launches ATLAS – Infotainment System Coming to Proton X50, X70, Iriz, Persona
June 7, 2022 Andrew Cheng

ACO Tech officially launched the ATLAS today, which stands for ACO Tech Local Automotive Services. Touted as an infotainment system made by Malaysians for Malaysians, it will be available on a slew of Proton models, including the X50, Iriz, Persona, and the upcoming 2022 Proton X70.

The ATLAS operating system will be delivered to these cars through an over-the-air (OTA) update in the near future. We were told that the upcoming X70 facelift will also get the ATLAS system, though the C-segment SUV will come with the GKUI software first at launch.

Based on Android 10, ATLAS has a distinctively different – and more practical – user interface than Proton’s GKUI system. It has customisable widgets on the home screen, there’s offline navigation, voice command features that can even differentiate between the driver’s and front passenger’s voices, and even ATLAS Pay, a car-based digital wallet system.

However, ATLAS Pay will only be available by Q4 2022, and it’s done in partnership with UOB Malaysia and Fasspay. ACO Tech is also working with FIVE Petroleum Malaysia for a “seamless refuelling experience” at FIVE petrol stations.

It’s also worth noting that ACO Tech signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Malaysia to develop cloud-based automotive solutions on Huawei Cloud.

No word yet on exactly when the ATLAS operating system will be available on the Proton X50, X70, Iriz, or the Persona, though ACO Tech mentioned that a global partnership with an audio streaming service is underway, which is likely foreshadowing the addition of Spotify to ATLAS. More details will be announced by the end of this month.
