2022 Proton X70 Launching 9 June – To Get X50’s 1.5L TGDi Engine?
June 6, 2022 Andrew Cheng

Here it is: Proton just posted a teaser of the 2022 Proton X70. Set to be launched this Thursday on 9 June, the C-segment SUV looks to be getting a facelift with a “bolder and sleeker” design.

The Proton X70 hasn’t received any major changes since the CKD model was launched back in February 2020, so it’s high time the SUV gets facelifted. Based on the teaser posted by Proton, it’s confirmed to be getting the same 19-inch wheels as the Proton X70 SE.

Based on previous rumours, the X70’s 1.8L turbocharged engine is also said to be replaced with a 1.5L TGDi three-cylinder mill for the facelift model. Yes, it’s the very same one found under the hood of the Proton X50, which outputs 177PS and 255Nm of torque.

Of course, it’s still too early to tell if the national carmaker will indeed give the Proton X70 the 1.5L engine of the X50. We’ll find out more as we approach the launch of the new C-segment SUV on 9 June this Thursday. You can catch the livestream at 11AM on Proton’s Facebook page.
