You Can Test Drive Cars in NRP Phase 2, But Only For Fully Vaccinated Individuals
September 13, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Car showrooms were allowed to operate back on 16 August, but it wasn’t clear then if customers were allowed to test drive vehicles too. Well, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) just confirmed that for states in the second phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), test drives are allowed.

However, like many other eased restrictions in the NRP, only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to test drive cars. That means it’s been 14 days since you’ve received your second dosage of Sinovac, Pfizer, or AstraZeneca vaccine, or 28 days after your initial dosage of single-dose COVID-19 vaccines such as Johnson & Johnson and CanSino.

On top of that, since car showroom test drives are only limited to states that are in the second phase of the NRP, two states are excluded from this: Johor and Kedah. Car showrooms in these two states are not allowed to offer test drives, regardless of the vaccination status of its patrons.

If you plan to head to your nearest car showroom for a test drive, it’s best to make an appointment with the relevant dealership first. After all, given the tighter SOPs in place now, most car showrooms do not allow for walk-ins.
