Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) just revealed that over 10 million units of the PlayStation 5 have been sold. According to the Japanese company, this makes it the fastest-selling PlayStation console to date.
The next generation console passed the 10 million sales mark as of 18 July 2021. It’s worth noting that back in 31 March 2021, over 7.8 million units of the PS5 were sold, so essentially, over 2.2 million units of the console were shipped between 1 April to 18 July.
If not for the global chip shortage, we reckon even more units of the PS5 could have been sold. After all, every time the next-gen console is restocked here in Malaysia, it sells out almost instantly. Evidently, everyone wants to get their hands on the PS5.
Aside from that, SIE also detailed some other milestones. Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is available on both the PS5 and PS4, has sold more than 6.5 million copies.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Returnal Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
The very punishing rougelite game Returnal from Housemarque, on the other hand, shipped over 560,000 copies. As for the more recent Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (also from Insomniac Games), it has sold more than 1.1 million copies since its release.
