Here it is: despite the ongoing lockdown in most states here in Malaysia, the Proton X70 SE (that stands for Special Edition) will finally be unveiled this Thursday on 22 July. Given that this is a limited edition model, only 2,000 units of the C-segment SUV are available.
Based on the Premium 2WD version of the X70 – so there’s no sunroof – the X70 SE is identical to the “Exclusive Edition” of the SUV for the Brunei market pictured below. Well, there is one difference: the Malaysian-bound SE model will feature an SE badge on the rear end.
Aside from that, the X70 SE also features new 19-inch alloy wheels with the very same design found on the Geely Boyue Pro, the facelifted model of the Boyue – the X70 is based on the latter. It also has a blacked-out roof and side mirrors with two colour options: Ocean Blue (the same shade offered for the X50 and Iriz) and Ruby Red.
Other specifications of the X70 SE include black nappa leather seats, the same 1.8L turbocharged direct injection engine with 181hp and 300Nm of torque, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Proton X70 SE will be making its debut this Thursday on 22 July; the virtual launch event will be livestreamed on the national carmaker’s Facebook page at 11AM. If you’re keen to get the SUV, you can register your interest right here.
