Malaysia to Achieve COVID-19 Herd Immunity as Early as September 2021 Now
July 19, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Malaysia was initially set to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 by the end of 2021, but this is now expedited to as early as September 2021. This was recently announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

According to MOH, herd immunity against COVID-19 is currently aimed to be achieved by the end of September or early October 2021 in Malaysia. At the moment, 9.8 million (or 30%) of the Malaysian population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Those who have received two doses, on the other hand, currently sits at 4.5 million (13.9% of the population). To date, over 14 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered locally.

If the current vaccination rate is maintained, there’s a good chance the current National Recovery Plan (NRP) will proceed to the next phases earlier than expected. Currently, most states are still in the first phase of the NRP, including Selangor and KL – two states that have reported high daily COVID-19 cases.

Needless to say, it’s vital to get your COVID-19 vaccination as early as possible. To check if you’ve received an appointment, check your vaccination page in the MySejahtera app regularly.
