2021 Toyota Vios Facelift & Vios GR-S Launched in Malaysia – RM75k to RM95k

Aside from the facelifted Yaris, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) also introduced its sedan sibling in Malaysia, the 2021 Toyota Vios facelift. On top of that, the company unveiled the sportier Vios GR-S on our shores too. Compared to the regular Vios, the GR-S model has a more aggressive styling with a sports-tuned suspension, among other things.

Four different models of the Vios are offered here. The most affordable J variant costs RM74,623, while the E and G trims go for RM82,593 and RM87,584 respectively. As for the sporty Vios GR-S – which is based on the G variant of the regular Vios – it is priced at RM95,284.

Just like the facelifted Yaris, these prices are with SST included, suggesting that deliveries of the Vios will only start next year.

Regardless of which variant you go for – yes, even the Vios GR-S – the updated Vios soldiers on with the same Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5L engine that does 107PS and 140Nm of torque. It is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a seven-speed Shiftmatic mode, though the Vios GR-S gets a 10-speed CVT instead.

The 10-speed CVT isn’t the only equipment that’s unique to the Vios GR-S. It also comes with the aforementioned sports-tuned suspension for “increased handling and confidence in high speed as well as comfort,” 17-inch alloy wheels, sports seats wrapped in leather and suede, and a more aggressively-styled aerokit than the regular Vios.

These differences aside, other aspects of the Vios GR-S are identical to the G model. That means it still features the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance systems, which is actually offered in all variants of the Vios except for the base J trim. Safety Sense includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and these two features can be switched off if the driver doesn’t need them.

Every model of the Vios also gets seven airbags, but only the G variant gets leather wrapped steering wheel and seats; other trims of the regular Vios feature urethane steering wheels and fabric upholstery instead. Besides that, the facelifted Vios supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well, though the base J model does not.

The 2021 Toyota Vios facelift is now available for viewing and testing at all Toyota dealerships and UMWT branches. The Vios GR-S, on the other hand, can only be test driven at selected showrooms.
