Aside from the AMD-powered Nitro 5 gaming laptop, Acer also introduced an affordable productivity laptop in Malaysia, the Acer Aspire 5. What makes it particularly interesting is the Magic Purple colourway: depending on the angle you’re looking at the laptop from, the colour actually changes; it’s a very unique paint job.
In fact, this is the sole colour option for the Aspire 5 in Malaysia, and it’s also offered in only one variant. Priced at RM2,599, it comes with Intel’s latest 10th generation Core i5-1035G1 processor paired with 4GB of RAM (upgradable to 12GB). Though it would’ve been great if it had more RAM, the Core i5 chip should be able to offer good processing power.
Besides that, the Aspire 5 also features a generous 512GB SSD; a large enough capacity for most users.
In the display department, the Aspire 5 features a 14-inch 19020 x 1080 IPS screen. In our brief time with the laptop, we notice that the display doesn’t get particularly bright, but at least it has a matte coating to help eliminate glare to a certain extend.
As for the Aspire 5’s connectivity options, it has a good selection of ports. These include two full-size USB-A connections, a USB-C port, as well as an HDMI output with HDCP support. It also supports WiFi 6 networks and Bluetooth 5.0.
The Acer Aspire 5 is now available for purchase in Malaysia for RM2,599. It comes with a three-year local warranty – the first year is covered under international warranty – and it will also be bundled with an activated copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2019.
