Proton just posted its sales report for July 2020, and it’s been a very good month for the national carmaker. As many as 13,216 total sales were made by Proton, and the Proton Saga make up for almost half of that figure. As many as 5,421 units of the model were sold, making it the best-selling A-segment sedan last month.
On top of that, July 2020 was Proton’s highest monthly sale since June 2012. In comparison to the same month in 2019, Proton sees a notable 45.7% improvement in sales. Evidently, the launch of the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition bolstered these numbers quite a bit. After all, all 1,100 units of the limited edition model were sold out in just five days.
Besides the Saga, three other Proton models led their respective segments as well. The popular Proton X70, for one, remains the best-selling SUV in Malaysia with 3,087 units sold. Not far behind is the Proton Persona: 3,043 units of the B-segment sedan leader were sold last month.
And then there’s the Proton Exora. With 792 units moved, it is the best-selling C-segment MPV locally in July 2020. Rounding out Proton’s sales performance for last month is the Proton Iriz – as many as 873 units of the B-segment hatchback were sold, putting it in third place in its respective segment.
“For August, Proton will look to continue to excite the market and stimulate sales in preparation for more model introductions later in the year,” said Roslan Abdullah, the CEO of Proton Edar. This could be a hint at the imminent arrival of the carmaker’s highly anticipated B-segment SUV, which is believed to be the called the Proton X50. Hopefully, the model will be introduced very soon to take advantage of the 100% sales tax exemption.
