Xiaomi just unveiled the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro today. As expected, the latter is basically the global variant of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max for the Indian market. As for the Redmi Note 9, it’s a brand new device that’s meant to serve as the most affordable option in the series.

Let’s start with the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Most of its hardware are shared with the Redmi Note 9S, including a 6.67-inch 2400 x 1080 IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, and a very generous 5,020mAh battery. However, it does have a number of neat upgrades, including support for 30W fast charging.

On top of that, the Redmi Note 9 Pro also comes with a slightly more sophisticated camera system. It consists of a 64MP f/1.89 main shooter, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. Still no telephoto shooter, but it’s not typically offered in this segment anyway.

Other specifications of the Redmi Note 9 Pro include a 32MP front-facing camera, 6GB of RAM, two storage options (64GB and 128GB), a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

And then there’s the regular Redmi Note 9. Given its more affordable price tag, it’s not quite as well-equipped as its other two siblings. That being said, it’s still quite capable, powered by MediaTek’s brand new Helio G85 chipset. In fact, this is the first smartphone to feature the chipmaker’s new processor.

As for the display, the Redmi Note 9 has a 6.53-inch 1080p IPS screen; slightly smaller than the Pro’s 6.67-inch panel. It also offers a quad camera configuration, though it’s not quite as sophisticated. It’s made up of a 48MP f/1.79 primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is a 13MP shooter.

Rounding out the specifications of the Redmi Note 9 are 3GB or 4GB of RAM, two storage capacities (64GB and 128GB), a 5,020mAh battery with 18W fast charging, and a rear fingerprint sensor.

So how much does these two smartphones cost? Well, the Redmi Note 9 retails at only $199 (~RM855) and $249 (~RM1,070) for the 64GB + 3GB and 128GB + 4GB variants respectively. As for the Redmi Note 9 Pro, it goes for $269 (~RM1,155) and $299 (~RM1,285) for the 64GB and 128GB models respectively.

Both the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro will be hitting store shelves in the middle of May next month, including Malaysia. That’s not a surprise, given that the Redmi Note 9 has already been registered with SIRIM yesterday.
