It seems like Xiaomi has been quite busy here in Malaysia. Not only has the yet to be released Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite appeared in SIRIM’s databse, we spotted yet another device registered under the Chinese company. Chances are, this is the Redmi Note 9, which is also – you guessed it – not released yet.

In our routine check of SIRIM’s database, we notice that Xiaomi Malaysia registered a device with the model number M2003J15SS just today on 29 April. We did some digging, and multiple sources believe that this is the Redmi Note 9. For the Chinese market, this device could be marketed as the Redmi 10X instead.

Looking at its list of leaked specifications, the Redmi Note 9 seems to be a more affordable alternative to the existing Redmi Note 9 Pro – rebranded as the Redmi Note 9S for the Malaysian market – and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. While its higher-end siblings sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, the regular Redmi Note 9 is believed to be powered by the upcoming MediaTek Helio G85 processor.

Besides that, the Redmi Note 9 has a slightly different design as well. Its hole-punch cutout, for one, is positioned on the left side of the screen instead of the middle. It also has a rear fingerprint sensor rather than a side-mounted one, which is positioned right under the square camera module.

Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 9’s exact camera hardware still remain unconfirmed, though the primary sensor is said to be a 48MP shooter. Chances are, it should also feature an ultra-wide angle lens, just like the rest of its siblings. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, is said to be a 13MP unit.

Other rumoured specifications of the Redmi Note 9 include a 6.53-inch 1080p IPS screen – slightly smaller than the Redmi Note 9S’ 6.67-inch display – up to 6GB of RAM, three storage options (32GB, 64GB, and 128GB), a microSD card slot, a generous 4,920mAh battery, and MIUI 11 based on Android 10 out of the box.

It remains to be seen exactly when the Redmi Note 9 will be officially revealed, though Xiaomi is planning to introduce a new member of the Redmi Note 9 series tomorrow on 30 April alongside the Mi Note 10 Lite. We’ll find out tomorrow whether it will be the Redmi Note 9, or just the global variant of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
