Proton X50 Open for Booking in Brunei
November 18, 2020 Andrew Cheng

It seems the Proton X50 is already heading to Brunei; bookings for the B-segment SUV is now open in the country. This makes it the first market outside of Malaysia to get the Malaysian-made SUV, just like how it was with the Proton X70.

The availability of the X50 in Brunei was revealed by Pad Motors Proton Brunei on its Facebook page. Although the dealer did not detail the variants available for the market, it should be similar to the models offered here. After all, this was the case with the X70.

If all variants of the X50 are available in Brunei, four models will be offered there: Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship. The first three variants are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder MPI engine that outputs 150PS and 226Nm of torque, while the range-topping Flagship trim gets a more powerful 1.5L TGDi mill, which churns out 177PS and 255Nm of torque. Both engine options are paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Naturally, the Flagship X50 is also the only model to get the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This suite of active safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), as well as Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).

As of October 2020, as many as 27,400 bookings were already made for the Proton X50 in Malaysia with 447 units delivered. With such high local demand, it’ll be interesting to see how Proton will handle the fulfillment of bookings made locally and in Brunei.
