There’s a lot of hype and excitement surrounding the PlayStation 5. After all, pre-orders for the next generation console is practically sold out globally; even the second wave of pre-orders for the Singaporean market is not enough to satiate gamers.
In short, it can be difficult (and frustrating) for gamers to get their hands on the PS5. This is amplified for us here in Malaysia, given that there isn’t even any confirmation of pre-order for the console in our market. If you’re disheartened about not being able to secure an order for the PS5, here are a number of reasons why it may be worth it to just…wait it out.
No Exclusive Games Yet
Even though PlayStation showed off a lot of exciting new games for the PS5, most of them (if not all) are playable on the PS4 or other platforms. Take Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, one of the launch games for the PS5. If you’ve got a PS4, you can still play the same game.
Sure, you don’t get the performance upgrades of the PS5 or any possible interaction with the new DualSense controller, but you’re still not missing out on any PS5 title if you’re an existing PS4 owner at the moment. Plus, when you do get a PS5..
Free Upgrade When You’re Ready
In the case of Spider-Man: Miles Morales – or any first-party PS5 game that is also available on the PS4 – those who purchase the PS4 version of the title will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version. So when you’re ready to get a PS5, you will have access to the improved version of the game from the get-go.
Essentially, you’re not “wasting” any money by purchasing the PS4 version of games that are available on the PS5, and you’re basically getting two games for the price of one. Really, it’s a win-win situation that benefits current owners of the PS4 quite a bit. Existing PS4 owners will still remain very relevant in the next couple of years.
Wider Availability
This is probably the biggest reason to not pre-order the PS5. As mentioned earlier, it’s quite difficult to secure an order for the next generation console right now, which can get quite frustrating. Once the PS5 is more widely available, you can save yourself the frustration. You won’t have to deal with long waiting time either.
More Colour Options in the Future
As with any PlayStation console released thus far, it’s only a matter of time before the Japanese company introduces different colour options for the PS5. Those who are not a fan of the sole white model available right now may want to hold out until more colours are released.
Better yet, wait for special editions of the PS5 if you want something more unique. Granted, it will be a while before this happens, but if you’re already an existing PS4 owner, you can still enjoy a number of PS5 games on the system. Well, until the PS5 gets exclusive games, anyway.
Wait for Actual User Reviews
Although we have plenty of information on the PS5 already, there are no user review of the console just yet. While we’re confident there would be no huge issue with the system, it’s always wise to wait and see if there are any possible aspects of the PS5 that might not sit well with you.
So then, should you pre-order the PlayStation 5? It will no doubt offer incredibly good performance upgrades over its predecessor, and to be one of the first gamers to get their hands on the next generation console is enticing to some folks. But just keep in mind the points we’ve mentioned above: you’re not missing out too much by not pre-ordering the PS5, especially if you’re an existing PS4 owner.
